Get some good ideas from these vintage wedding gowns below.
1920's The 1920's era wedding dresses were big on modesty. Dresses were made with long sleeves and high necklines and non revealing silhouettes. Cap veils made of silk tulle and lace were very fashionable during this time period and are what set this style apart.
Modest wedding gowns with updated looks are still in vogue today.
1930's The 1930's brought the sleek Hollywood glam style. This era launched a slim and slender look with a dress that draped over a naturally slim silhouette.
V necklines and both long sleeves and sleeveless gowns were in high fashion as well as V cut backs.
1940's The 1940's era saw basically two styles of wedding gowns ---- dresses during the war and dresses after the war. The vintage wedding dresses during the war were designs based on practicality and war rationing. Due to the tough time, it was not uncommon for a bride to make or borrow her wedding gown. Yet after the war ended, the styles were a little more lavish and elegant as prosperity was a result of the war ending.
Some common elements of the 1940's style wedding dress were long sleeves with a point at the wrist and slightly puffy at the shoulder,
a high V neckline and an empahsized cinched waist.
Jackie O, the fashion icon of the era, wore this elegant wedding dress in 1953. This decade ushered in fulll skirts, small waist lines, rounded shoulders and bodices with a pointed bosom look. This ultra feminine style was complete
with tall thin heels to accentuate small dainty ankles.
1960's The 1960's was all about Audrey Hepburn style. This era brought us shorter vintage wedding dresses with straight clean lines. Sheath and sleeveless dresses
with pillbox hats were all the rage as well.
Bohemian style, natural looking make up, floppy hats or floral rings were what set the 1970's vintage wedding dresses style apart. Empire waists, long sleeves floor length gowns were also popular during this decade.
