Design Your Wedding Dress

It's Easier Than You Think!

design your wedding dress Have you been searching for the perfect wedding gown but can't seem to find it?

Why not design your wedding dress? (See 3 reasons why you should create your own wedding dress right here!)

Even if you're not a wedding dress designer or lack creative skills, creating your own look can be easier than you think.

You can start first by browsing through magazines to pick a few styles you like.

You might even want to get an idea of the hottest wedding dress trends as well.

Then, mix and match a few of your favorite aspects to design your perfect gown.

But with the use of the internet, this job can be a breeze for you. There are a few great websites that you can use to design your wedding dress with the click of a button.

Change the bodice, the skirt and add embellishments...it's all up to you. When you're finished, you can print out the results and get the opinions of your friends. Before you get started, first decide which basic wedding dress style you want, then you can build your gown from there.

Great Wedding Dress Design Sites:

The first one I'd recommend is I Village Build Your Dream Dress.

I like this one because you can select your body type(hourglass, pear or apple shape) which in my opinion is a must before you even get started on choosing the dress design.

The Wedding Dress Creator is another good one. In addition to creating your gown, it lets you choose hairstyles, skin tones, and jewelry as well as the background.

I-Amour is also another site to help you design your wedding dress. It is much more simplistic than the other two above, but you can choose eye and lipstick color and face and eyebrow shape which is kind of fun.

Flonga is a fun site too. This one is unique in that it will let you select various textures for your gown.

Once you settle on the perfect dress design, you should now consider which kind of fabric you will need to give this dress the look you want.

Head out to the fabric stores to touch and feel for yourself.

  • Satin is the most commonly used wedding gown fabric, but you can consider other fabrics as well for a different look.

  • Use taffeta for a stiffer looking gown and good for a gown with any pleating.

  • Chiffon is light and airy with a see through quality and woven in such a way to give it a crepe or puckered appearance.

  • Organza is also a light and airy fabric and good for summer gowns or used as an overlay.

  • Silk is also very common, but will give your gown a heavier look and you'll most likely need a petticoat in order to achieve a full skirt look if that's what you want.

Now you have your design printed out, along with your fabric selection and it's time to have your gown made.

You can either have this done locally, but it will probably cost a small fortune. Or if you really want to stay within your budget you could have it made overseas. You'll save a bundle and get a stunning high quality gown.

A great little factory that will do this for you is Dream Wedding Dresses. (You can read about how I found them here.)

Just send them your sketch along with your fabric choices and specific measurements. They'll give you a very fair quote for your gown. They're very good at asking the right questions to make sure your dress turns out exactly how YOU want it to.

So, what are you waiting for? Design your wedding dress and create a gown as unique as you!
