How to Choose the Best Imitation Jewelry to Compliment Your Look

bridal costume jewelry

Bridal Costume Jewelry also known as imitation jewelry, used to be synomous with the words 'tacky','gawdy' and 'fake'.

But over the years new techniques have been implemented in creating costume jewelry and today you can find great looking quality costume jewelry to wear on your wedding day at very affordable prices.

You can find a variety of different types of bridal costume jewelry including pearls, rhinestones, cubic zirconias and precious stones with a variety of metal bases so your choices are limitless.

Remember a few helpful tips when choosing your bridal costume jewelry.

Choose your look and design based on your dress.

If you'll be wearing a pure white wedding dress, then choose bridal costume jewelry with a platinum or silver base.

Ivory gowns look best with faux pearls or gold based jewelry.

If your dress and veil have beadwork or lace, choose costume jewelry with pearls.

If your dress and veil have lots of 'bling', set it off with a matching rhinestone or cubic zirconia bridal jewelry set.

If your dress has color, then choose either rhinestones- which look great with any color- or precious gems that harmonize with the color of your dress.

Look for quality.

You can find great deals on costume jewelry at several online stores and, of course, on Ebay.

There are a lot of expensive looking cheap bridal jewelry sets that are very high quality but won't break your budget.

But before you buy make sure you look for jewelry with brass or sterling silver as the base metal with gold layer plating.

Avoid choosing painted nickel. This metal base can often fade and chip and more importantly looks 'tacky','gawdy' and 'fake' --three words you do not want associated with your wedding!

Less is more.

This is true especially on your wedding day.

Try not to get carried away with your jewelry.

Your jewelry is not the focal point, your dress is.

Everything else, your veil, tiara, shoes and bridal costume jewelry should compliment and harmonize with your dress.

So for example, if your dress or veil is elaborate with lots of sparkle, then choose bridal jewelry with lots of sparkle as well, but keep it simpler and more understated than the dress or veil.

If your jewelry is too much or too big, it will just look....well, 'overdone'.

Consider the shape of your neckline when choosing your necklace.

Choose a longer length necklace or drop pendant for a V neck or sweetheart neckline.

A choker or shorter length necklace looks great with a strapless dress or sleeveless gown with spaghetti straps.

A strand of pearls is a perfect choice for most wedding dresses. Just remember to keep the length shorter than the neckline of the dress.

Multiple pearl strands accent a simple elegant dress nicely, while a single pearl strand looks best with a more elaborate princess style dress.

Consider your hairstyle.

More elaborate hairstyles call for simpler jewelry, while simpler hairstyles harmonize with more elaborate bridal jewelry.

An updo looks best with dangling earrings while hair left down looks great with simple studs or button earrings.
